About This Quote

Physicists are very strange people. When I was in college, I took a course on quantum mechanics. One of the instructors was not only an expert in the field, but had written a book on it. He had even won a Nobel Prize.

So when he decided to show us around the building, he showed us all these really cool instruments that were designed to be used for research into quantum mechanics. Then he said something like "In my experience the ones who aren't actually dead are in some way very ill."I don't think it was even an attempt at humor. It was like he didn't understand that quantum mechanics deals with things that are so bizarre, so weird, so completely outside the realm of normal human experience that it's hard to imagine how anyone could actually do any work with it.

All this time spent studying weird physics theories and working on machines that don't even work!
